AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has urged Arab leaders to take urgent and practical measures to end Israel’s ongoing military aggression against the Gaza Strip and lift the devastating humanitarian blockade on the besieged territory.
Hamas issued its appeal in a statement on Saturday as the 34th Arab League Summit commenced in Baghdad. The summit has placed the Israeli military campaign in Gaza at the forefront of discussions.
“As the Arab Summit convenes today in Baghdad, Gaza is enduring one of the most horrific assaults in its history. The occupation forces continue their massacres against civilians, indiscriminately targeting residential neighborhoods and shelter centers. Hundreds have been martyred or wounded under a suffocating siege that has halted aid deliveries entirely,” Hamas said.
The resistance movement noted that northern Gaza, in particular, is witnessing “a systematic campaign of extermination.” The intensified aerial and artillery bombardments have forced hundreds of families to flee their homes in search of safety, as death and destruction loom.
Hamas further warned that what is unfolding in Gaza is “a fully-fledged genocide” happening in front of a paralyzed world. More than 2.5 million people remain trapped under siege, facing relentless attacks.
The movement called on the Arab League Summit to assume its historic responsibilities by taking concrete steps to stop the aggression, lift the siege, and implement the resolutions of the Riyadh Summit. These resolutions emphasized breaking the blockade and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Hamas also demanded sanctions against the Israeli regime and the prosecution of its leaders as war criminals.
Additionally, the resistance group called on the people of the world and all free forces to intensify solidarity efforts to expose Israeli crimes and reveal its policies of extermination and starvation.
Earlier in the day, Arab leaders gathered in Baghdad to take part in the 34th Arab League Summit. The ongoing war in Gaza dominated discussions, alongside other regional matters.
The summit comes two months after Israel unilaterally ended a ceasefire agreement with Hamas and resumed its deadly military operations in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to escalate the war further, stating that his goal is to eliminate the Palestinian resistance movement.
Israel’s military campaign against Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, has killed more than 53,000 Palestinians so far.
In January, Israel was forced to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas, following its failure to achieve any of its primary objectives, including eliminating the movement or securing the release of captives.
However, on March 18, Israel resumed its airstrikes on Gaza, violating the nearly two-month-long ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement
